Palara LLC · Day by Verse
Privacy Policy
Effective September 16, 2026
This policy covers the Day by Verse iPhone app and its study service, operated by Palara LLC, the company responsible for this processing. Other Palara apps have their own policies. Visits to our company website are covered by our website privacy notice. You can read the Bible without creating an account.
Your reading stays on your iPhone
Saved verses, personal reflections, reading history, reading-plan progress, display settings, and reminder preferences are stored on your device. The app does not upload these records to Palara LLC or OpenAI. They may be included in device backups managed by you and Apple. Sharing content through the iOS share sheet sends only the content you choose to the destination you select.
When you request a study
The app sends the selected Bible reference and study depth to our service hosted on Render. The service sends Scripture, related passages, and available study reference material to OpenAI to generate and check an explanation. It does not send your personal reflections, bookmarks, purchase proof, or subscription identifier to OpenAI.
OpenAI processes these requests under its API data controls. We request that responses are not stored as retrievable API application state; this does not disable provider abuse-monitoring retention. Provider retention and exceptions are described in OpenAI’s data controls.
Prepared studies
We cache generated studies so other requests for the same passage and depth can return them quickly. These shared studies contain Bible references, explanations, supporting material, and generation information, not your identity or reflection. They remain until replaced or deleted.
Purchases and daily allowance
Apple processes purchases and payment information. We do not receive your payment-card details. To verify Plus access, the app sends Apple’s signed transaction proof to our study service. We verify the subscription and do not store the raw proof or raw transaction identifier.
Our service stores a hashed subscription identifier, the UTC day, and the number of successful new studies for that day. This enables the daily allowance across devices using the same subscription. It does not record a passage history. The daily ledger is replaced when the service records a successful new study on a later UTC day. The most recent ledger can remain until that happens. Contact us to request deletion of service records; we may need limited information to verify your request.
Services that process information
- Render — study-service hosting. Our server on Render receives the selected Bible reference, study depth, and signed Apple transaction proof used to verify Plus. It stores the shared study cache, hashed subscription allowance records, and operational logs described here. Hosting and security systems may process IP addresses, timestamps, and network information to deliver and protect the service. Render privacy information.
- OpenAI — AI study generation and checking. Receives the Scripture and reference material needed for a study and returns generated text. We do not send personal reflections, bookmarks, Apple purchase proof, or subscription identifiers to OpenAI. API inputs and outputs are not used for model training by default. Provider abuse-monitoring logs may retain content for up to 30 days, with exceptions described in OpenAI’s data controls. Setting response storage off does not remove this separate retention.
- Apple — distribution, purchases and device services. Handles your Apple Account, billing, subscription transactions, and any device backups you enable. Our app receives subscription status and signed transaction information; Palara does not receive payment-card details. Notifications are scheduled locally on your device. Apple processes information under its own privacy policy.
Operational logs include generation timing, errors, model and token usage to maintain reliability and control costs. These logs may remain until rotated or deleted. They do not contain personal reflections or a subscriber’s passage history. Provider-managed logs have separate retention policies.
Information may be processed in the United States and other countries where these services operate. Where applicable law requires safeguards for international transfers, those safeguards must apply. Contact us for information about the safeguards relevant to your request.
Day by Verse has no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs. We do not sell personal information or use it for cross-app advertising. We do not combine your use of different Palara apps into an advertising profile.
Reminders
Daily reminders are optional and scheduled locally by iOS with your permission. We do not receive your reminder time or whether you opened a notification. You can disable reminders in the app or iPhone Settings.
Contacting us
If you choose to email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in the message. Our email service providers process message delivery and storage. We use correspondence to answer support or privacy requests and retain it only as reasonably needed to resolve the matter, maintain required records, or comply with law. Please do not send passwords, payment-card details, or personal reflections you do not want to share.
Your choices and rights
You can delete saved verses and reflections in the app. Deleting the app removes its local data; copies in device backups are managed through Apple. You can use the reader without requesting AI studies. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of personal information, request portability, withdraw consent where applicable, or complain to your data-protection authority. Use our Contact page for a privacy request.
We use information as necessary to provide requested services, protect and maintain them, respond to you, and meet legal obligations. We use service providers for these purposes and may disclose information where required by law. We retain it only for the purposes described here and applicable legal requirements.
Children and changes
The service is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us so we can investigate and address it. We will update this policy when our practices change and identify the current version by its effective date.
